Description

This Delicious French Onion Pasta is a comforting dish that combines the flavors of caramelized onions, rich beef broth, and melty cheese, all wrapped up in pasta. It comes together in under 30 minutes, making it perfect for busy lunch hours.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 ounces of pasta (fusilli or penne recommended)
  • 2 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons of unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon of olive oil
  • 2 cups of beef broth
  • 1 teaspoon of thyme (fresh or dried)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup of shredded Gruyère cheese
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish, optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Add the pasta and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  2. In a skillet, melt the butter and olive oil over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and cook, stirring occasionally, for about 15-20 minutes, or until they are golden brown and caramelized.
  3. Pour in the beef broth and stir in the thyme. Season with salt and pepper. Let it simmer for about 5 minutes to combine the flavors.
  4. Add the drained pasta to the skillet, tossing to coat in the onion broth mixture. Let it cook together for another 2-3 minutes to soak up the flavors.
  5. Preheat your oven’s broiler. Transfer the pasta to an oven-safe dish and top with shredded Gruyère cheese.
  6. Place under the broiler for about 3-5 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
  7. Remove from the oven, garnish with fresh parsley, and serve immediately.
